Dell 3115cn Multifunction Printer - Scanning Problems...

Hi there,

I have the above 4 in 1 printer and having trouble scanning documents.  Both the feeder and flatbed scanner just produce one block colour page when scanning a sheet of paper.  This happens when i scan or copy documents and produces a page like the attached.  Does anybody have any idea why this would be happening?

I suspect that the scanner assembly is either dirty (with something green) or has totally malfunctioned, as if it has a loose wire or something.

There is a flap that can lift up on the ADF where Ihave pulled out post-it notes and things.

The scanner is brand new, hasn't scanned properly since purchasing so shouldn't be dirty.  What is the ADF if you don't mind me asking?

Most likely the scanhead is totally stuffed. If it was covered with something green it would most likely produce black, as no light could get to the green area. As it happens with both the ADF and the flatbed, it must be the scanhead itself, and not either of the 2 scanning windows.

OK cheers, should I contact Dell and see if they can come and replace the scanhead?

Since it is new, you should go for a warranty replacement. Scanners and Printers are usually not repaired, as the work and parts cost more than a new device.

ADF = Automatic Document Feeder.
If it is new, it should be repaired or replaced under warranty.

Recheck the Quick Start poster and verify that you have removed all the packing strips on the unit.  If there is a plastic or cellophane strip covering the scan head, that would explain the problem.
