network scanner in active directory

Is it possible to add a network scanner to active directory running on windows 2003 server the way we add a print server to AD?

Otherwise, is it possible for a Fuji Xerox Work Centre 3119 to "Scan to folder as pdf" so I can set folder sharing so users can retrieve the scanned pdf?

There are a couple of ways to do this.

We have our Xerox Workcentre's setup to FTP to a location and have FTP running on the server.  This gives us the ability to do this with authentication.

However, to go to a share...  if they do not authenticate (and I don't remember), you'll have to grant guest access to be able to WRITE to the share in question.  You can do this without enabling read, so at least there is some security to it.

Hope this helps and good luck!

If you want to scan to a shared folder, it will require a username and password to be able to do so.
You can either use an existing user, or (recommended) create a user just for the copier, allowing it acces only to the shared foilder, then allow other users access in order to retreive scans.
You can usually set this up vis the MFDs web utility

Actually, to be more specific, there are plenty of scanners that provide drivers that can do this, but the hardware performance is not so good.

So my question is: will this particular scanner allow me to scan to a folder? (I can setup the folder to be a share, but I don't find instructions on how to scan to folder on this scanner's manual. I don't want to buy this scanner if it doesnt have this feature).
Not sure about that particular model sorry, I don't work for Xerox.
Most MFDs on the market nowadays will scan to an SMB share, an FTP server, or an email server
Most will recover email addresses from AD for use with Scan to email.
Many also support AD authentication, and some support Scan to URL.
I work for a company that support Ricoh, KonicMinolta, Samsung and Sharp hardware, and most larger models support all of the above

Ok. I guess not the model for me then. I'll look around some more.
