Using Ricoh Aficio 1515MF as a scanner

Asked by: jskfan

Using Ricoh as a scanner

I have downloaded Twain Drivers and Desktopbinder lite software to windows 2003 server. I would like to set up the Rico Aficio 1515MF as a scanner, so that users can scan documents on scanner device(Rico Aficio) and save them in the network.

I am reading through the manual but could not find an easy way on how to set it up.
http://www.ricoh-usa.com/downloads/manuals/bw/aficio1515.pdf
any help?

 thanks

You will need to install also smart device monitor for client -  enables network communication between ricoh and computer. There is also program Scanrouter V2 Lite - for distribution of scaned documents over network.

by: jskfanPosted on 2009-10-27 at 10:42:13ID: 25675239

I am gonna install this Scanrouter V2 Lite :
I want a user to scan a document from RICOH and save it in the network for instance as PDF and then he can grab it from his workstation( windows XP) and open it.

by: jskfanPosted on 2009-10-27 at 10:48:12ID: 25675307

<<enables network communication between ricoh and computer. >>
how to do that?

by: jskfanPosted on 2009-10-27 at 10:51:30ID: 25675357

I already installed smart device monitor for client
but in select server type, whatever I select I can't connect to it.

Have you installed printer driver for the ricoh on that computer?
You have to add smartdevice port (printer propertios-add port- new port- smartdevice port- then search. The IP address of 1515 shoud be displayed. (have you set IP address? - sorry stupid question).
If not you probably have firewall enabled on your computer . Disable it for the time of installation (and testing).

You can scan and mail documents with this device.
You can put email addresses of the users in the device so they have some sort of speed dial to mail the documents to them. (else the must enter there email address manually)
The user then gets a mail with the scanned document as a pdf.
Is there a reason why you don't want to use this?

<<Have you installed printer driver for the ricoh on that computer?>>
Yes

<<You have to add smartdevice port (printer propertios-add port- new port- smartdevice port- then search. The IP address of 1515 shoud be displayed.>>

This part is done too

No firewall is enabled.

The 1515 only supports Scanrouter, TWAIN,  or scan to email.
Smartdevice monitor is nothing to do with scanning, it is just a printer port monitor.

Scanrouter Lite is no longer supported by Ricoh , it will not work with newer versions of windows (Vista or server 2003+), it is no longer available for download.

Installing Scanrouter is not a trivial task.
It needs to be installed on a computer that is on all of the time (whenever you need to scan). it cannot be a domain controller, it cannot be an email server, and you cannot use remote desktop at the same time, or it will crash.
Once installed, you need to associate it with the scanner, using the "add I/O device" option in the server menu, and then set up destinations which will appear on the copier.
.

wyliecoyoteuk:

I have installed ScanRouter V2 Administration utility in the Print server where the Ricoh print drivers are installed.
<<<Once installed, you need to associate it with the scanner, using the "add I/O device" option in the server menu>>>
when I run the Scanrouter if prompts me to type the server, when I type either the name of the server or the IP it says "the specified name or Ip is not valid"
did you say that I need to go to the console of the server in order to run the ScanRouter? if I use RDP to remote to the server and run ScanRouter it won't work??

by: davorinPosted on 2009-10-27 at 12:45:48ID: 25676585

wyliecoyoteuk is right - especialy about smartdevice monitor.
Location of instructions in user manual:
page 293-295 options (outline) of network scaning
page 296-305 device setup as scanner
page 306-323 software installation (with list of supported OSes)
page 321-336 sending scans as email
page 337-350 using network delivery
page 351-355 network twain scanner

by: wyliecoyoteukPosted on 2009-10-27 at 12:55:43ID: 25676688

if you use remote desktop it will disable scanrouter, this is because they use the same dcom port.

by: wyliecoyoteukPosted on 2009-10-27 at 12:56:45ID: 25676704

When running the scanrouter admin, it will connect by default to localhost, with no password.

by: jskfanPosted on 2009-10-27 at 12:58:16ID: 25676724

I have read and applied what is in user guide, but it is not working

by: wyliecoyoteukPosted on 2009-10-27 at 12:58:19ID: 25676725

but the scanrouter server will need to be run under the same username and password that was used to install it, unless you install it as a service.

by: jskfanPosted on 2009-10-27 at 12:59:08ID: 25676736

Am I using wrong scanrouter admin ?
I have downloaded ScanRouter V2 Administration utility

by: wyliecoyoteukPosted on 2009-10-27 at 13:00:27ID: 25676757

And yes, RDP will not work.

by: wyliecoyoteukPosted on 2009-10-27 at 13:01:24ID: 25676768

Scanrouter Lite is the only free one.

by: wyliecoyoteukPosted on 2009-10-27 at 13:02:35ID: 25676783

Scanrouter is an added cost option, which requires a license, scanrouter lite is free, but no longer supported.

by: jskfanPosted on 2009-10-27 at 13:02:54ID: 25676786

<<Scanrouter Lite is the only free one.>>

Do you have a link?

by: wyliecoyoteukPosted on 2009-10-27 at 13:07:26ID: 25676850

Scanrouter lite is no longer available for download, it has been discontinued and is no longer supported.

by: jskfanPosted on 2009-10-27 at 13:11:46ID: 25676904

so how am I going to set up the Ricoh to scan and store documents in the network?

by: wyliecoyoteukPosted on 2009-10-27 at 13:15:38ID: 25676946

Unless you can install the software from the disks that came with it, obtain the Scanrouter lite software from somewhere else, or set it up to scan to email, you can't.
End of story, sorry.

by: wyliecoyoteukPosted on 2009-10-27 at 13:18:58ID: 25676973

Note, the Scanrouter  V2 administration utility is not the full package, it is just a remote control management tool for Scanrouter server V2.
You need to install Scanrouter Lite Server V2 to enable network scanning on these older Ricoh MFDs

by: davorinPosted on 2009-10-27 at 13:27:56ID: 25677059

http://www.nrgcss.com/drivers/Page4.asp?Brand=ntec&Vw=&Fltr=0&Ky=339190727&Usr=&Cat=3&Mdl=206&Utid=118

Nashuatec, NRG, Ricoh, Afficio - they all have the same products under different names.

by: wyliecoyoteukPosted on 2009-10-27 at 13:35:32ID: 25677136

Interesting, the  official Ricoh website no longer has a download link.

by: jskfanPosted on 2009-10-27 at 14:20:04ID: 25677678

I have downloaded it from here:
http://74.125.47.132/search?q=cache:3iKA8BCD_w4J:www.metrosales.com/servicedept/ScanRouterV2/Install_ScanRouterV2.ppt+download+Scanrouter+Lite+Server+V2&cd=6&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

Now when I open the console of ScanRouter, I see :
Delivery Server
Local Host
Delivery table
Destination
Sender
etc...

What do I need to do next so that when I scan a document from RICOH I will be able to save the document in the network???

by: jskfanPosted on 2009-10-27 at 14:33:23ID: 25677813

OK , I added the I/O device, I might need to do something at the print device(scanner)

by: wyliecoyoteukPosted on 2009-10-28 at 03:08:24ID: 25681418

You may need to put in the IP address of the delivery server (the pc running scanrouter server). on the copier.
To do this go into user tools (press button with a diamond shape and "123" on it) and enter it under "scanner settings"

After entering  the delivery server address, power cycle the copier.
here is a link to the Ricoh knowledge base
http://www.ricoh-support.com/enduser/support/

by: jskfanPosted on 2009-10-28 at 06:13:51ID: 25682836

Under Scan Settings, there is no option to enter the IP address of the server.

by: jskfanPosted on 2009-10-28 at 06:43:52ID: 25683113

In  the error logs at the ScanRouter Admin utility console, I see a lot of logs saying:
"Launching of the scanner driver failed"
But when I look at the windows services, I see ScanRouterDriverV2 started.

by: wyliecoyoteukPosted on 2009-10-28 at 09:36:16ID: 25685157

It may be under system settings> file transfer> delivery server.
Not sure if it picks it up automatically or not, the later models do, not sure of the 1515, it one of the last to use scanrouter, so it might.
Check under the scanrouter admin server menu that services are running. If you can see "resume services" they aren't.

There can be various issues that cause that error.

Using RDP, (VNC works ok without causing Scanrouter to stop working)
Windows firewall blocking port 3670.
Server 2003 R2 policies blocking unsigned packets
Specifying a username without a password, or without admin rights.

I did point out above that Scanrouter will not work with Server 2003 (actually, it will, just not Server 2003 R2).
It was built for windows 2000, and not updated after XP.
Are you running it as a service? if so the username and password for the service will need admin rights.

It would be far easier to use scan to email, rather than struggle on with a deprecated peice of software.

by: jskfanPosted on 2009-10-28 at 09:49:13ID: 25685312

when I open Scanrouter, it rpompt me for password but when I click OK it will let me in.

by: jskfanPosted on 2009-10-28 at 09:54:52ID: 25685384

Now I am running Dds Scheduler Deamon and ScanRouterDriverV2 services under Domain admin account.
I don't see any error in the logs. But when I open Server information, the status is Services Suspended.
When I check the services they show started.
It's confusing....

by: jskfanPosted on 2009-10-28 at 11:22:03ID: 25686507

I believe the problem is in the Services suspended in the Scanrouter, even when I click Start Delivery Services, it shows that the services suspended.

by: jskfanPosted on 2009-10-28 at 12:04:38ID: 25686965

wyliecoyoteuk:

I know you have been working too hard on this.
I am gonna reward points and close this question.
I want to open a new question regarding how to send a scanned file to email server from Ricoh 1515. If this works that would be great.
