Brother MFC 8840D Windows 7 and Scanning software
I have a Brother 8840D printer and I just switched to Windows 7. The driver for the printer ( that Microsoft supplied) works fine, but what I need is software that will allow me to scan to a file. Originally it came with a built in version of PaperPort (I believe)
However, aside from the drivers, I was told by Brother today that they have no such software for Windows 7 and to contact a 3rd part vendor for software; someone like Paperport. In going to their web site the first thing I see is an advertisement for software that sells for $199.00. The printer itself was only $250.00
Is there some solution available that will allow me to scan a something to a jpg and or a pdf file?
Something that doesn't involve a lot of expense?

I have an email into IronFist with regard to Windows 7 compatibility.

I have investigated XP Compatibility mode and decided against it. It puts too much overhead on the system and takes up a lot of disk space.
Any other thoughts?

I'm using STP on Windows 7 just fine.

It appears that STP will not scan, but only can convert JPEGs into PDF. What I'm looking for is a scaning solution for my Brother MFC 8840D

This is a surprising little tool. It does indeed solve the problem of not being able to scan from my MFC 8840D. It was easy to tell how to create a .pdf file, it was not as obvious to tell how to create a .jpg file. I finally discovered I could right click on the STP screen and select Save As.
Thank you for haning in there. I would have passed over it if you hadn't.

I have this same brother model and installed STP as a solution and it works for the flatbed but I have been unable to use STP with the document feeder for multi-page scans. Do you know how to solve this?
Furthermore, if I try to install the Brother MFL-Pro Suite via xp mode it craps out about 75% of the way thru install and gives an error message that the Install Shield Setup Launcher has stopped working and that windows will close the program and notify me if a solution is available. Has anyone else been successful in installing this brother app in xp mode?
