Also, you should re-enable automatic driver installation after all that.

Tried many different things to get built-in Orbicam to work, all unsuccessfully. There are three different
possible manufacturers webcam that could be installed in the Acer, and I tried all three drivers and
utilities and none of them worked. So I gave up and went out
purchase a Logitech Quickcam Pro for Notebooks, and that does not work either. When I disable
the built-in webcam via device manager, it reinstalls the software automatically when I reboot.
When I try Logitech Quickcam on another laptop running Vista Premium with SP1 and no built-in
webcam it works just fine. So my theory is that somehow there is a conflict between the internal
webcam and the Logitech external.

Yes, because the driver existed before the SP1 upgrade in your previous scenario.
To find the manufacturer of the hardware you are going to have to go:
Start -> Right Click on Computer -> Choose Manage -> Click on Device Manager
Find the device in question (webcam) or it may show up as an unrecognized device, Right Click on it and choose Properties.
Go to the Details tab and choose Hardware ID from the drop down. Post what numbers you see there.
Those don't seem to be the numbers I am looking for.
This guide will tell you how to get the Hardware ID that I need to look up the manufacturer.

I have been reading that Vista SP1 has been causing some issues with composite USB devices like web cams. A solution that I have seen, if you have the time, is:
1) Disable automatic driver installation by going Control Panel -> System and Maintenance -> System -> Tasks (side panel) -> Advanced System Settings -> Hardware (tab) -> Windows Update Driver Settings
2) Uninstall all software related to all webcams
3) Reboot
4) Roll back SP1
5) Re-install SP1
6) Re-install the driver software.
The issue seems to lie in situations where the drivers / software was installed BEFORE the SP1 upgrade.
