Cannot connect XBox to PC via routers

Hello

I have an XBox 360 connected to an FSG NAS Box which has a built in router

This is in turn connected to a Belkin router through a CAT 5 cable

My computer can see the XBox, but the XBox cannot find the computer

When I connect the XBox to the computer directly, the XBox can see the computer but I need to use a router

As an aside, when this did work directly, I cant see how to get all my music on the XBox

My computer's media library has over 2000 songs, most of these are stored on the NAS, but when I go to play music on the XBox only 170 songs are available?

The XBox will monitor network shares, but I dont know how to do this in Vista, because my music is on the NAS box which I access through a mapped network drive, and there does not appear to be a way of sharing the mapped drive?

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Cheers

OK, lets simplify things a little. Vista comes with Media Center allowing your Xbox 360 to work as an extender. You also have Windows Media Player. Either of these can be used as an organized interface to all of your music on your NAS. So through WMP or MC setup your audio library, allow your library to be shared, and give your X360 access to view it. That should take care of the media portion.

As for your 360 not connecting to the PC via routers, this is just a few networking/routing changes in your NAS/Belkin router. Are all of your devices on the same subnet? 192.168.1.x or something similar for example? Is it possible to disable the routing functionality of the NAS and use it strictly as a switch?

I have a problem with Windows Media Player in that it did not seem to add all of my music to the library, there were a lot of songs missing and not all of them are copy protected

When using Media Centre the library was far better - over 2000 songs however when I look at the library in Media centre from the XBox there are not as many songs?

Everything is on the same subnet, the PC can see the XBox when everything is plugged into the routers but the XBox cannot see the computer

I dont know if it is possible to use the NAS as a switch, how would I find out?  It is a FSG Gateway 500GB drive

Does anyone know why the XBox does not pick up all of the songs that are in my media player library?
Depending on how they are encoded and by what program they are shared by, is why you are not seeing all of your media.

The encoding whether MP4, MP3, AAC, WMA. Also DRM, protected or unprotected files.

Also in your Media Center library, they may be showing up on your XBOX, but the ID Tags may have to be edited so they all dont show up under the unknown category.
I am sharing the music using Media player 11

The library on my PC has over 2000 songs only 65 are showing on the XBOX

All of these files play fine on the computer

I think I may need to put all of my music on my computer instead of the NAS Box is that right?
The problem is that I have an old laptop which I want to use to host the music does not have any disk space so I really need to be able to play music which is on my NAS box
Now someone correct me if I am wrong here. With Media Player you can have it browse/watch other folders and add it to the Media Player library. It will keep the songs on the original location. So you could say have all of your media, still on your NAS, but being streamed from your PC to your XBOX 360.

Extra step? Yes. Why exactly? I have never really delved into the mindset of Microsoft, but I know alot of people have done this (including myself). I have to do this for my PS3, since it wont read off my NAS because my NAs isn't a certified Media Center, blah blah Sony something.

Hope that helps.
The problem is def something to do with having my music on the NAS box

I did the following

Created a new playlist in Media Player

Added 2 songs, both songs can be played on the computer.

Saved playlist

Looked at my saved playlist in the XBox - the song on the NAS box is not shown

Any ideas anyone please?
