Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-875S ATA is not recognising dvd-r disks
Hi when i use dvd-r disks my windows vista pc does not autoplay anymore like it use to do. Furthermore I get a used disk format in properties dialog box i don't know why this has happened. 0.00 used space 0.00 free space
i cannot use any blank disks.
type cd
drive file system unknown
I have tried other disks & they give the same result.
In driver details
drivers are up to date i have never changed or updated them my driver however it shows it as a cd rom drive not a dvd drive.
Any support i would be grateful thankyou for your time David39

Yes i can play cd music & play dvd's that are burned but it does not recognise a blank dvd-r i dont know why but when i put the dvd-r blank disk in right click on dvd drive & left click properties it shows the drive as 4.7gb but Suddenly changes in a second to 0.00 & says used 0.00 free
& it is blue like a used disk it never used to do this.
All my drivers are up to date i have checked them & windows vista reported back up to date.

Yeah, I would test with third party burner if you can burn any DVD-R on this device.
You can give these a shot.

Hello thanks for your answers What i mean ref to < but it does not recognise a blank disk dvd-r is i get no autorun working when i put the disk in & on right click dvdr drive no autorun option. & in properties i get a blue circle disk not pink/purple with o.oo for used space & o.oo free space but when i first click on properties it seems to appear like there is some free space available but then suddednly goes to o.oo very fast in less then a sec something happens & then it changes to blank blue like used but everything to zero.
This never used to happen with these dvd-r's until recently.

Has this disc ever been written to and a fail was recorded?
If so this disc is a coaster now,
Lets say you started writing to a DVD-r blank and for some unknown reason it failed right at the start then it has been written to and is a throw away item/
DVD-R cannot be written to more than once or used in a multisession.
The fact you see blue indicates t has been written to and not finalised hense the no auto run pops up.
DVD video must be finalised unless it's a data disc
Can you post what has been done,. any of the above?

Here is a list of possible fixes to try.
try this one
The CD drive or the DVD drive does not work as expected on a computer that you upgraded to Windows Vista
CD-R drive or CD-RW drive is not recognized as a recordable device
and any others that may match your situation
http://support.microsoft.com/smarterror/default.aspx?spid=global&query=kb%20314060&errurl=%2fdefault.aspx%2fkb%2f314060
Another thought do you have Nero or have recently installed any tool related to burning DVD or CD or any tools that create a virtual drive?
Like Daemon tools?
If you used Daemon Tools when your done unmount any drives and stop Daemon tools.
Otherwise your default burning tools may stop functioning. Like Nero.

Just to add, now that you have windows 7 you can choose what happens when you insert a blank DVD
go to
