RAID 5 vs RAID 1

We are a online share brokerage company. The oracle database is existing on raid 5 level. The response time has deteriorated these days because of increase in volumes. The application vendor is saying that U move out of raid 5 to raid 1. I wanted to know how  much this will be helpful.

Can you give use more information about your server ?

It's could be also a good thing to "compact" the Oracle database (export/import)

"The application vendor is saying that U move out of raid 5 to raid 1"

This is because RAID level 5 works best with a lot of smaller files.  As you database has grown, it has surpassed the size where level 5 is efficient.  I agree with the vendor's assessment that level 1 is much better for larger files, especially a single large database file.
Yes all above is true, the most important thing is to get your backups.
1) Are your HD in the system unit or are they external?
1a. If they are internal - going to Raid-1 you may not have enough bays.

2) Does your DB needs to be compressed?  may help with performance.

3) How old are your drives?
3a. Look at going with faster drives & controller too - if they are old.
3b. Have you look at the drives - to see that they don't have read/write
retries due to worn out old drives.... This would definitely slow down
your system.  Perform diagnostics.

4) Are you using hardware or software RAID - hardware RAID is faster.
4b. Add move memory to the RAID-5 controller if it will accept to
improve performance.

5) Finally if you still consider RAID1 - consider duplexing for the cost of
a controller you will get extra fault tolerance in case of controller failure.
You will get better performance as each controller will do its own r/w.

You can try also to add memory in your server ... Verify the memory peak with the task manager. For best performance, the memory peak must be < to the physical memory.
Seem to remember this same raid 5 Vs raid 1 question posted by gurdip in another TA with the same conclusion, 5 is slow: magarity talks out of his arse but that's all you are likely to get from a free service. Bon chance. Good input from the other experts though.
