The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Processor showdown. AMD Vs Celeron Vs Pentium 4

Asked by Diane258 in Miscellaneous Hardware, Hardware Components

Hello all.

I have some questions reguarding the current processors on the market.

First, i have been told several times that the Celeron processor is really bad when it comes to games compared with and AMD XP processor equivilent.  Is this true?

on the Tom's hardware page i saw a chart where a quake 3 time demo was ran at various settings. the Pentium 4 3.2 GZ processor seemed to be alot more powerful than a AMD 3200+ processor. As i understand it a AMD 3200+ processor is supposed to have the same power as a Pentium 4 3.2 GZ.

on the following pages:
http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/20020903/p4_celeron-05.html
http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/20030623/index.html

we see the p4 compared to the celeron and the p4 compared to a AMD.

I have a friend who has taken the ratio of the timedemo speeds and asserts that the celeron is about 86% of the power of a P4 and an AMD 3200+ is about 76% of the power of a P4. Therefore the celron in his opinion is a better processor than an AMD of the same power.

is he comparing apples and oranges?

What i would like to know is:
is the celeron really bad for games?
Is an AMD XP Processor(of equal speed) far better than it's Celeron counterpart?
What is the pecking order of processors? i.e AMD,P4,Celeron/P4,AMD,Celeron/ect

Thank you for your time.
