No sound on a compaq presario 700 (Xp Pro)
(( Compaq presario 700 notebook ))
I was having problems with windows xp home edition so I decided to load XP Pro. When I finish installing xp pro everything looked it normal but when I tried to play a music cd or a mp3 file it would'nt output sound. The driver seems to be working and everything seems normal like if it was playing a song without volume but just no sound comming out. Can somebody please help me, I really need sound soon for a presentation.

you of course loaded the latest greatest drivers for the card?
You might even consider uninstalling the driver and letting XP Pro reinstalling it.
Control Panel>Performance and Maintenance>System>Hardwar e tab>Then Device Manager
Find the soundcard then unistall the old driver...you might even consider some of the Service Packs that Microsoft has out for Pro as they are different than those for Home.
Let us know if any of this helps,

Check the sound volume control or mixer to see if you have "mute" checked on. Uncheck it if it is.
Yep, Reinstalling device drivers might certainly do it, also the whole digital/analog and mute issues. Don't want to repeat all that was said.
Also you can try installing Directx9b : www.microsoft.com/directx
As this can be the source of much video/audio problems in windows xp.
Hope that helps

TRy to check the settings of the sound by going into control panel or else try to reinstall the sound drivers
if possible you can download the latest drivers from following sites:
