Computer crashes during game play`

Ok, here is the problem. I play battlefield (desert combat and vietnam). My system use to work great with desert combat (like 4 months ago) but here lately my computer has been crashing during game play (meaing, it just locks up). I have not changed anything in my system at all! My computer does not crash in any other instances only during game play.

I have downloaded new drivers, even the Rage3d tweak and lowered my voltage on my video card, but no luck.

My system
Athlon 1.2gig
768 sdram
9000 ati
250w power supply
cd/cdrw
dvd
2 hds
firewire
usb2
wintv card

should i go back to an old driver for my card? bigger power supply? better ram?

i even bought a new card for my system and the same results!

please help!

Your power supply is kind of lite.
Check here.
http://www.jscustompcs.com/power_supply/
Also check your HSF (heatsink & fan) to make sure it is not full of dust.
First as already said, your power supply is just a bit on the weak side.

Things you should check for is over heating.  Clean your computer completly with a vaccum and compressed air can.
Make sure that your fan is running at normal speed.  should be at least at 2500 rpm
put a house fan by your computer while the side is off and see if it crashes

You might have some bad RAM try removing one stick at a time and see if that helps.
With all the hardware you are running you would definately want to consider a bigger power supply
How much memory does the game require? How long can you play the game before it locks up?  What are the system requirements for the game? Have you tried playing other games?  Do they freeze up?   Do you have any programs running in the background that require a lot of memory?  If so that may be the problem.  Try shutting down the larger programs that arent needed(if any).  Thats usually the case when my games freeze. When you run out of physical memory, you start using virtual memory and we all know virtual memory is much slower. It then becomes a timing issue which may cause programs to freeze. If that doesn't work you may have to re-install the game.
>>How much memory does the game require?
it will only say 256MB I would say that it needs at minumum 512Mb if you are running XP

They system meets the requirments for the game without any problem.  There is not a problem there.

ok, my system fan is 7336 rpm, system temp is about 98-102 and my cpu is 55 °Celsius

game play locks up randomly, mostly in the begining of game play
i need you to do this

go to control panel>system>advanced tab>Start up and recovery> settings> uncheck the box that says "Automatically restart"

after this, make your system crash and then tell us the error.

well, the thing is it does not crash unless i play desert combat or battllfield, need for speed, etc. it seems that every ea game i own f*&@s up.  other than that i cant make it crash, i even do some photoshop work for the vinyl graphics i have developed for my business and the files sizes are way over 500megs. some serious render time. i dont know to think other than the powersupply is going on me!
They are not ripperd or downloaded are they?

i thought i would but do you think i need to upgrade to ddr, my board supports it, i heard that the ati 9000 is more compatible if the system running has ddr ram!

like i said before my system runs great with no games playing but until the last 6 months it has taken a serious turn for the worse!

thanks so far buckeyes

Let us know if a new power supply helps.  I think that it might.  It won't hurt anything that is for sure.

you did not have to accept and answer yet.  And Snowguy was the first one to suggest a new power supply.
