Best Abit or Asus Motherboards ?

I would like to know the experts personal opinions on what they think the best motherboard is for both types of Intel P4's.

For example :
==============

Best mother board for socket 478 P4 cpu is Abit TH7 - II

Best motherboard for socekt 775 P4 is Asus and what ever model

===============

Basically my 2 fav manufacturers for motherboards are Asus and Abit and possibly super micro.

I want realistic answers obviously :)

I prefer the P4 simply because they seem to be great for gaming, I mean from past experience AMD's havent been good with regards to multi tasking and I am always doing more then a couple of things at the same time, playing music, surfing around on EE answering or asking questions or stuff like that. I am interested to see what the Athlon64's can do But I would really like to try  both the P4 775 socket and the Athlon 64 out before I buy either just to see which one would be better for me.

I mean are the Athlon64's supposed to be a lot better then the P4's (both socket 478 and socket 775's?? )

WOW, I will take a read of that later on. I have been up all night and my eyes are blurry lol. Just wanted to take the chance to say thanks for all the help that you have given me and I will leave this question open for a while just to see if anyone else replys to this question :)

Kind regards

Gecko

P.S where abouts are you samccarthy, because in the near future I want to build a new computer and wanted to know if you could help me out with getting a motherboard and possibly some other items , if that is ok ??
Here's some comparisons:

With the Athlon 64's, especially the FX series, these are designed for gaming, but I'll tell you what, they go toe to toe with the P4's.  I have 5 of the K8V boards running as Servers around the city and have never regretted it.  They are fast and stable.  AMD just does things a little differently then Intel.  The Newest Socket 939's are supposed to be the wave of the future opening up even more capabilities.
oh ok, well I will be going back to england. So not sure if that helps any lol. Considering the different voltages not to mention shipping fees and taxes lol. I figured I would ask lol.

LOL SAM I had the same Nightmare with the Asus a8V Deluxe I hate via chipsets now I run the MSI K8N Ultra Platinum never a problem. only I went through about 5 boards and every ram config you can think of.
When I have compared my computer specs with friends computer specs which are fairly close, the P4's seemed better for me because I usually , but not always dont like computer game music and I play my own music whilst playing games and stuff like that. The P4's seemed to be better for me because I mean I can normally get away with doing a virus scan, using hijackthis, checking emails and downloading at the same time because of the multi tasking ability. P4's still play the games I want to play and I have never used a 64 bit AMD , so I wouldnt have any clue with them. If I had enough money then I would buy an AMD 64 and a fast P4. That wont be for a long time by which time there will be better specs out anyway lol.
Well, Dynamic1 got me hook on an MSI K8N Neo2 motherboard and Athlon64 3000+ cpu, which I got for $300.  I added some Patriot RAM and a new power supply to upgrade my oldest system, and it's zipping along.

Callandor glad you got it zipping alone its a great board.  Gecko same here the P4 Multitasks Great. I think the reason I do not notice lag with the AMD 64 is it is running at a fairly high overclock now but I do notice how HT does help on P4 Systems.  Also as of now I really do not see a reason to buy a PCI-E board even though I own one, IT is buggy and the drivers or mabye chipset is not mature anough in otherwords it is nowhere as stable as the boards I reccomended above. I Have several abit boards too and there GREAT. But the ASUS P4P800 Deluxe is my favorite and takes the cake. Low cost solid and Fast. AMD 64 can also be had at a great price but a little more complicated. SLI for running 2 video cards in PCI-E is just ok not great just yet even at Nvidias Demo a machine running on two huge monitors crashed at a large show to boot!
I will be using AGP for a long time into the future as well as testing and benchmarking PCI-E but for machines that I count on I will be sticking to AGP.
J-A-L,

You have better luck than me with the A8V.  See my post above.  For me, it is the straw that moved me to Abit.
Sam same here the A8V Was the nightmard that turned me off to ASUS AMD 64 boards with VIA Chipsets. There is litterally a ton of info on people with neverending problems not so with Nforce 3 and 4 But 4 is still not mature enough. Geko this is why I love the P4P800 Deluxe http://www.xpnt.com/page13.html This was my screenshot almost a year ago on Liquid Nitrogen. The Board and chip are still running solid on All air Zalman cooled 3.8GHZ ATM I change it all the time :>)  This was from september over 13,000 on 3dMark 03 P4P800 Deluxe same board. Still to this day a hard score to beat. http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=3069251
Also do not expect a 6GHZ machine LOL I had Volt modded the motherboard and memory also LN2 cooled the northbridge and added fans to the capacitors to get that insane FSB. But for you expect an Easy 3.6GHZ overclock. As for PCI-E without running 2 6800GTs you will still have a hard time beating that 13,000 I have one with 2 and it beats it by far with 2 cards but will not come close with one. In the future I know it will get better but for now its buggy.
Man I gotta get me that board and some liquid nitrogen LOL !!!! << Needs a 6ghz computer :D
:>) If you can find me a way to make it last more then a few minutes I will build you one LOL .{"-_-}.
LOL ok I think this question has been pretty much answered and so I will split points later on when I get back home, right now I am at a library and dont have much longer left on the computer. Thanks for everyones suggestions and input ! Very much appreciated !
Geee samccarthy...

That's un-usual... considering the # of awards the board has.  I know how helpful Asus is after you bought it... My chip is a 3200+ so, quite a bit slower than what yer running at and I haven't had a glitch at all.  Got a Gigabyte 6600GT, 2 x 256 of OCZ 2-2-2-6 low latency memory and a 120GB SATA drive n stuff.  A basic system but it works great (so far).  I had purchased a string of Asus boards years ago and had 3 bad ones in a row... can't even remember the model number.. something like AV..266 or something... one even came with the wrong BIOS on it... a board with audio, and the bios had no audio support... until I burned the correct BIOS on it the audio wasn't working.

I put it all in an Antec Shark case... and if anyone wants to buy a case with 12cm fans because you think it's quiet... damn, think again..lol

Anyways... maybe the FX53 is too much to handle? lol   Altho, I don't know much about the HyperX memory... is it a recommended type?

Jeff
I have done a lot with ASUS boards and can't tell you how many I've put out and owned myself over the years.  I have always been a big fan and preached their praises to everyone.  Then I got the A7N8X-E boards.  The first few were great, but then with the other processors, it was such a pain.  It took me awhile to narrow down the problems to the speed of the processor, but like I said, I had a bunch and could recreate the problem on all of them.

The K8V is a wonderful workhourse.  I just built up 2 more as servers for the city.  Very solid and Stable.  I thought the A8V would be the same, moving to the FX-53 processor and the new socket 939.  3 new boards, 3 new processors, same exact problem.  First I blamed Symantec because the blasted Internet Security would not install properly, but gradually I narrowed down the problem and found that even with a fresh XP installation, I could duplicate the failure time and again with as simple as a large disk copy from a server or loading an intensive application like Veritas.  I could do the same on all the boards.  To this day ASUS has not responded to my assistance request and it is hanging in limbs.  I was under a deadline, so eventially I looked for another board and the Abit stepped in. That's a shame too as I really do like ASUS, but this is twice now.  I did all the usual, Bios Updates, driver Updates, etc.

The Hyper X memory.......  Asus recommends, amazingly enought the Value Ram at the same or lower specs than the Hyper X.  They do recommend some Hyper X, but I guess they only tested it in certain configurations.  It's very good and quick.  I highly recommend it.
I got one thing, can any of you make a list of which boards are better to the boards you think are not so good ie :

1. Asus P4 800 Deluxe <-- Indicates that it is your first choice hence you think its the best motherboard
2. Abit IC7-G <-- Indicates that you think that it is not as good as the first one because it lacks certain features or w/e

Also if you could give simple reasoning why you put them in that order ie I put the IC7 Below the Asus because it lacked this this and this feature or something like that, I'm sure you get the hint lol :)

Just so that I have an idea on what people think to the different Intel P4 Motherboards out there :)

Thanks again !
Very good and Stable.

Asus
K8V SE Boards running 3400+ Athlon 64 processors.
These are solid and stable.  Great Performer.

Abit
AV8.....  Running Athlon 64, FX-53 and FX-55, Socket 939 Processors.   They have been stable and quick with absolutely no problems.  My board of choice now.  4 Memory sockets so you can put 1 gb modules in.  More memory than XP can handle, but at least you can max it out.
I meant with regards to the P4 motherboards because I need to be able to get something cheap and I know I can get motherboards off of ebay for the P4's since they have been out for a while.
I haven't used the Asus P4C800 Deluxe, but I have the Abit IC7-G and would easily recommend it.  I didn't need or want the extra onboard features of the IC7-MAX3 because I already have a very good sound card.  I also have an Asus P4G8X and Asus P4B533, both of which are overclocked 50% and stable (these are the P4 1.8a and P4 1.6a cpus).  They would be good choices right behind the Abit for me.
I tried to split the points evenly, Thank you soo much for all the help !! Very much appreciated :) Hopefully this question dont get deleted. Because I will need to refer to this in the not to distant future lol.
Thanks sam, I will need it lol !! I looked around on prices for cpu's but have not as of yet looked for motherboard prices. I will do this on dabs.com or simply.co.uk soon.

CPU Prices for the P4 seem pretty good and there are 478 and 775 versions so I will have to decide on type soon lol.
