Hardware Alert Notification Thread

I have set up this thread to enable those whose questions have stalled or for experts who need help in resolving a problem to ask for assistance.  If you like pitching in to help others out and want to be notified when someone needs help, subscribe to this thread.  If you are an asker or an expert who needs to call in for more help, post a comment with a link to the question.  You can unsubscribe after posting if you don't want notifications for other postings, but who knows, maybe you can help also.  Questions roll off the first page with time and may escape the notice of many, so those subscribed will always know when the "Bat signal" goes up.  I hope this will build a core of high-quality hardware experts who are interested in helping others and in improving the quality of solutions in Experts-Exchange.

I'll give it a rip and see what happens.

hey, so can i have those 500 points? lol!
Take the point mongering to the lounge my friend.  :-)
<lurking>
seems quite old for an Q.   fior assistance!!

but hey what ever

i am here   finally   been  super duper busy lately
just got back from camp it was busy there too   i NEED an vacation!!

compfixer101
it will be a long time before this question reaches the cleanup team or me  but thanks for the notif on not cleaning this Q.  would it be possible to put an Q. like this on ALL the TA's  like at the top of the screen so it doesn't get pushed off the screen??
that way it won't  be able to be ignored when put onto the next page where no one in the future won't see it?

i don't think it will affect the cleanup team  but you would have to cha\eck with AnnieMod on  that subject since her Q is old too but still gets old suscribers some notifs.

better get to that range now that i am here and able to do a bit of it

bye bye
compfixer101
That sounds like an excellent idea!
There are other TA's here (Windows Security as an example) which have followed Cal's Idea and also are using such an Alert notification thread. I think making this "sticky" would be a good idea for the EE page developers...
Hi all, I brought this up at our last conference in May when A&R flew a few of us out there to discuss the upcoming new UI.  Since then there has been a set-back in development, which has rescheduled our return to work with the developers from this month till September.  I had previously proposed this by email last year, it looks like they are going to do the code for it now.

Hopefully we will be back up to speed quickly.  Normally we do not tell the membership about most of the ideas we present, just in case they do not come to fruition or see them on the Beta Server(s).

Thanks,

That's great news Wesley!  Thanks so much.  ;-)

Another one. Any other bright ideas: Please read the whole thread. It is not what you might first think. He understands about the sector structure.
Briefly: He needs a way to READ the CRC data stored right behind the DATA part of a sector.
Disk Invest. doesn't seem to want to do this.
Thanks.   : )

Callandor, if WIN XP has a help Q. like this could you post this Q. link there for me   or post the Q. link here!!

thanks a bunch

cf101
There isn't any WinXP thread that I'm aware of.  It looks like you got some help, so I'll leave it at that.
ok gotcha!!

This looks like it qualifies:

The asker hasn't responded to any previous Questions?  all closed through cleanup.  Want me to post in CS about this?

cf101
"... all closed through cleanup ..." ==>  I was curious, so I looked.  Not true !!
19 questions asked;  10 closed by asker;  3 deleted by request;  1 still open (the one you linked to); and 5 closed by cleanup.

Didn't look that close i guess but Still NO Comments from him or her  in Any question

cf101
As long as they don't leave questions open, they can opt to wait for a suitable answer.  Of course, the 5 closed by cleanup is an indication that may be a long time.
posting this in CS too

callrs,

While some of us have expertise in other TAs, I would like to restrict this thread to Hardware-related problems (including subdivisions beneath Hardware); since it is in the Hardware TA.
Sorry. I thought it may have qualified as hardware.
https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/21940173/Applications-shut-themselves-down.html Applications shut themselves down.
This though seems hardware.  Page fault error despite install of sp1 & sp2 with & without updates.
This is my own queston and wondered if anyone else had any ideas on the subject.

callrs,

https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/21940173/Applications-shut-themselves-down.html is already in the cleanup process - it's too late for contributions.
Anyone familier wit the Qube3 server appliance from SUN the author is trying to restore the OS and is having what looks to be network problems, but it may be a bit deeper into hardware.

Yeah, this has been like classified as adbandoned for like 196 days i think. I don't remember I just skip this Q. in FastCat all the time.

Callandor, perhaps time to open a new one?
compfixer101,

I don't think sparkmarker is referring to this question, as he has been a participant since 2/21/2006.   No need to open a new question, because the whole point is to have one place to notify all interested parties.

sparkmaker,

It's not likely to be the hardware, but a bad driver or the firewall could interfere with the update.  I can't say I've seen this happen myself.
You're right Callandor, I'm looking for some input on this Question as I haven't run into this particular issue before.
wow been a while...

thanks, sorta taking my time with school stuff...
just want to keep annie happy and finish my cleanup....
compfixer101,

If the asker has a cpu that is misbehaving, it would do it all the time or randomly.  Being able to control the load as the asker states indicates to me that it is either a database setup problem or a cpu-intensive query, both of which have nothing to do with hardware.  Just because someone says "CPU" doesn't mean it's a cpu problem.
It's been awhile since using this method, I hope people are still monitoring this thread.
I've got a problem here that I'd like some input on.
https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/22968645/How-can-I-test-the-close-cover-switch-on-an-HP-zx5000-laptop.html?cid=239&anchorAnswerId=20313016#a20313016
Doesn't sound like a hardware problem, if others can print to it.
Callandor:  I got a notif you posted there, but I can't see it.
same here
I posted, then re-read the question and realized it wasn't a hardware problem, so I deleted my useless comment.
Mystery solved.   : )
Would have been nice if I could have removed mine too after re-reading the Q.  Grrrrrrrrrr.
Huntress58, if you want, I can delete it to hide your shame ;-)  I know too well that "Oops" feeling.
Oh would you please?  I would be forever in your debt.  :^)
Thank you so much dear!  You're a peach.  :^)
Anyone know of good hardware inventory software that resides on a local server?

My suggestion of belarc advisor is already suggested..
hmm i don't know that many besdies belarc..
SiSoft Sandra maybe?
JFYI I have both Belarc and Sandra installed and 9 out of 10 times I'll use Sandra.
Made a suggestion in the Q -->Lansweeper

Good Luck

PLS  ==>  You've posted a technical response in a hardware notification thread designed for hardware experts to notify each other when there's a particular issue they want to bring attention to.    Note that the comment you responded to was nearly two years old -- and provided a link to the actual question where someone asked for assistance in setting up a repair business.      Had you followed that link, you'd have also noticed that the question was closed in September of 2008.

It's generally a good idea to READ the question (NOT just a random comment in the following thread)  before responding to it ... had you done so here you'd have clearly understood the purpose of this thread.

I object. This Q doesn't deserve any poinks.
I agree -- but Callandor assigned 20 points to it (at the time that was the minimum).

I suppose I could have zeroed the points, but I didn't think about it.   Enjoy the massive dose of extra points you just got :-)
Thanks, gary!
Hey, it seems just like yesterday when this thread was created. It indeed deserves to be kept open... even if just for "old time's" sake. :)
My answer was in regard with this request:

Those of you who run your own repair shop, see if you can help this person: https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/23663265/what-do-i-need-to-do-to-start-a-small-computer-repair-business.html

There was no indication about the age of the question.
LOL @ garycase and rindi.      : D
it's posted on top of every comment
08/21/08 04:11 PM, ID: 22284353
that's a little old
also the question was closed years ago as well
Then sorry, I thought I could help, didn't know it can create this much of problem.
Yes, the new alert notification system does away with the need for this thread (sniff - another marker disappears into the past).
I still like the idea that I can access the proven experts who subscribe to this thread directly rather than hope they chime in on a question that they may have passed over. I know we haven't used this for awhile, but hopefully, this discussion may rejuvenate its existence. I'm sure the questioners who are stuck will appreciate the help a rescue call in this thread can generate.
For that it would probably be better to open a new thread, this one hasn't hadn't been used for such a long time it just got forgotten (probably). Apart from that the thread should get closed and a new one opened periodically, as it otherwise gets too long and takes ages to load.
alot of people are still subscribed to it i assume.
>>compfixer101:   alot of people are still subscribed to it i assume.

Yep, been watching to see how the PLS v. garycase situation would pan out
