Can't install espon printer for some reason,

Have an Expson CX4600, the drivers are installed, but it wont pick it up on plug and play. XP will make its chime when you plug in the USB cord, but nothing installs. I tried to autodetect it though the adding a printer wizard and installing it off the CD and neither worked. When i manually plug in the drivers and try to print i get an error to check the print heads. This is a brand new out of the box computer (Abit motherboard w/USB 2.0 drivers installed) and a brand new out of box printer. Any ideas on why its not able to install?

Try uninstalling the drivers, and restart the installation from the CD-rom making sure that the printer is turned off until prompted to by the instalation wizard. I you have the printer on when XP starts then the installation wizard won't be able to detect the printer when it needs to.
Further note. Try manually downloading the drivers from epsons web site
www.epson.com

Godd luck with your problem

I ran in to a similar problem. I spent 4 hours with HP tech service on the new printer. He finaly gave up and I replaced the printer. Replace it since it is new and see what happens.

You should also install the drivers if it has a USB plug without the Printer connected. Then turn off the machine and plug in the printer.

This problem usually happens when the printer has been connected and turned on before installing appropriate driver, peripheral has been registered in Windows hardware database and setup program cannot hook it.

You should turn off the printer and disconnect it from the pc, check Device Manager and expand "Unrecognized devices" item. Delete all unrecognized devices, confirm and reboot.

Once you have restarted the pc connect the printer but do not turn it on or you will end up with the same problem.
Run the setup program and turn on the printer only when prompted by the system.
