Problem updateting ASUS motherboard

I am receiving a error message 'Cant'f Find System BIOS' Hook when I execute the Aflash.exe from dos at boot on my Windows xp system. If possible can someone help me to update my bios. I have read several forms and none of them seem to help and it seems ASUS is a bad motherboard to flash. I have also tried Alt + F2 and Alt + F5 and nothing happens at bootup. Any help is appreciated.

When I ran my bios update I did it from with in windows, basically download the latest bios update file from there site, save it some where that you can find, run the aflash.exe whilst in windows, it will have a button to ask you where the bios file is ( From when I did it , I had to extract the bios update file as it was zipped ) and once you select it, you click on update and it takes a while and make sure that the power doesnt go off otherwise that will kill your motherboard / bios.
@ "'Cant'f Find System BIOS' Hook when I execute the Aflash.exe " That is most likely because it is trying to find the API or hook within windows to run the update or to update the bios / cmos should I say and obviously it cant find or access the windows kernel / The API's / hooks it needs with in windows because you are not in windows.

Thanks for your help first of all on a Sat Evening. But I have tried the live update file when I try to install it I get the error messageASUS BIOSINFO.DLL unable to detect ASUS BIOS. It seems the update is looking for a dll BIOS file.  Have you come across this error? Or is there another way to boot up windows xp so that I am able to use aflash.exe. Thanks once again for your help.
This is puzzling. First of all which Asus board are you trying to flash?  I've flashed every board they've made and the process is basically the same. First, make sure you have a reliable power source. Run off a UPS if you can. Next insert a floppy and right click it in 'my computer'. Choose format and make a dos startup disk. Then copy the previously downloaded and unzipped awdflash or aflash utility and the .bin file to the floppy. Rename the .bin to the name of your mobo, ie: A8N-E.bin .
Check the contents of the floppy then reboot to the floppy.  At the "a" prompt type awdflash (or whatever flash utility you have). When it asks for the .bin file type in: A:\A8N-E.bin and hit enter. Again, use the correct file names. Once you get it flashing don't touch anything until prompted to do so. When it's done remove the floppy and reboot normally. Hit the delete button (or whatever button gets you into the bios) on the post screen and check and/or reset your settings. Hit f10 and let 'er rip.
The model of my board is a A7V8X-LA and I have verified all of my power sources but I did not rename the file when I was trying to flash the BIOS. But I have tried to rename the filename as instructed to A7V83.BIN and now I receive the error 'BIOS Image File Check Sum Error' !! You cant updat this image file !!. What do you think the problem is?
Thanks for your help

Good point al-hasan. I honestly didn't know Compaq made a version of the Duron/Thunderbird series board. Learn something every day.
Ralf_K:
not sure they really did, but I did not find that board on the ASUS websites, and somewhere I saw that Compaq seems to have sourced it as an OEM or something like that. Just a thought, and if it helps us get ahead, fine. If not, let's discard it, please.
(There seems to be little anyway what Dell, HP/Compaq etc. make themselves, besides the bills they write.)

Regards,
has.
Well the reason I am trying to update the board is because I purchased a new ATI radeon 9550 graphics card. And after installing the card the PC boots up and then goes blank. So I verified I had the right drivers for the card and then I was left with the motherboard. It turns after going to ASUS motherboard webiste there is an update for the motherboard that allows for AGP functionality I am not sure but I just assumed that I needed this update in order for the graphics card to work. After troubleshooting this thing for a few hours I have to come to the conclusion that the graphics card must be faulty. Also Al-hasan good suggestion I went to compaqs website and they did have an update that worked fine for the motherboard but it still has problems. Thanks guys for everyone help.
tupac1979:
thank you too. What problems are still there with the board, please? If it is really a Compaq-Asus board, you should get all drivers etc. from the Compaq website.
