Astra 610S On/Off Switch? Where?

I know that this sounds stupid, but the instructions show a switch on the back next to the power input and there is no switch there, nor anywhere on the box.  Can you help?

I believe there were a couple of revisions during the production runs of the 610S and 610P, and so only some of each of these models have power switches. So, for example if you go to the Umax page on DriversPlanet, you'll find drivers for both 610S with and without the power switch (http://www.driversplanet.com/scanners.aspx?action=model&mfg=94). I'm not sure if this corresponds to having internal vs external power converters.

OK I went there and understand that there are two types of UMAX  610s scanners.  Those with, and those without, power switches.  Does this mean that the scanner is supposed to be on as soon as I plug in the power supply?  As it is my computer does not recognize the new hardware plugged into the printer port and I am believing that that is because it is not turned on?  Thanks for your help.
Is the Power Indicator light at the front of the unit on? If it isn't on, check that your power supply is working.

Here's the manual, BTW, if you don't have it: ftp://67.105.101.99/user-guides_manuals/astra_610s/Astra%20610S.pdf
YUP the power supply was DOA.  Now how about one more question for another 50 points?  The cable that came with the unit goes from a SCSI port on the scanner to a what on the computer?  the printer parallel port? or do I have to buy a SCSI card for it?  Thanks.
