The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Which RAID best for servers ?

Asked by DuffyS40 in Computer Servers

Tags: , ,

I have always been using RAID-1 for my servers, purely for reliability as if one dies, the second one holds the same data which I could either rebuilt with minimum fuss, or simply clone the data and then get a new pair of drives to replace the RAID set. But recently, as the server gets more users and the workloads gets heavy, performance becomes an issue, I have been studying and testing RAID-5, but I am kind of worry by drive failure, as the data is spread across the drives, making recovery that bit more difficult.

I have seen the 3ware 9500 with 128MB and battery backup, this should ease the possibilities of data corruption, but still I am not totally sure on the idea.

I am now looking at RAID6 cards, the idea of 2 parity seems to be a better solution, I plan to run 4 SATA drives off it, so I am looking at 4x320 Western Digital RAID edition, this should give me over 600GB of storage with safety, the server will have an UPS to protect it from power failure. or a RAID5 (plus 1 x hot spare) be good enough

Would be grateful for some experts with experience in this field to give some feedbacks on the pros and cons.  OS will be 2003Start Free Trial
