Can I use microsoft defrag on a server drive which contains BOTH data AND the exchange database

I need to defrag the only drive on the server which has both data and the exchange database.
The data needs it badly, I believe Exchange looks after itself.
Is it safe to use the microsoft defrag tool?
Should I stop the exchange service? Any other requirements?
( I back up Exchange using Arcserve to document level.)
Or what?
Thanks
Iain

Reason why you should down the exchange database while defragging is because Exchange itself does online defrags of itself.

If your Windows Defrag and the Exchange Online defrag run at the same time, you can have adverse effects.
