The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Controlling Dell Poweredge 2650 Noise Levels

Asked by Fluid_Imagery in Computer Servers, Computer Fans and Cooling, Network Operations

Tags: , , ,

We're in the process of purchasing 5 PE 2650s to learn and do some minimal hosting on in our small computer service office.

Problem is that this is a small office size wise (1000sq ft) and is completely open minus a small closet and a bathroom.  We have a few partitions but nothing that's going to cut much noise.  We purchased a Dell PE 2410 Rack (24U) to put these 5 2650's, 2 24port gigabit switches, and 2 APC 1500s.  The plan was to put this in the "workshop" portion of our office where we fix client's computers etc. but my employee is concerned about the noise and how obnoxious it's going to be.

I may be ahead of myself a little here, we're only gotten about 3 of the 5 servers in so far and have only turned them on to the POST to make sure they booted.  The fan levels have stayed pretty constant, but is there a utility in the bios to drop the RPM's down or another way I can help the noise?
