I have been having a ton of issues with DPM 2006 lately. The main one I am currently focusing on involves the backup state of my web server which is an older Gateway machine running Windows Server 2000. It has a mere 20GB SCSI Hard drive for the system drive (Which is all we need for this computer realistically) but DPM can no synchronize or create a shadow copy of this drive. It used to work, but about 2 months ago I started getting the standard DPM error message "Synchronization with Consistency check Required".
The details are similar to Error 3 on this page:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911169/en-usAll of the latest updates have been applied. I have tried completely wiping out the DPM backups and client for the web server including the stored data. Fortunately the system drive contains no information I am really stressed about, but this is a symptom of a larger issue. I am also constantly battling to get a good backup of our SBS Server through DPM, I constantly have at least one of the 2 drives with either a "Synchronization with consistency check required" error or a "Shadow Copies Failing" error.
DPM reports that I still have >600GB unallocated on my 2TB backup pool, so I don't think that space is an issue.
I have considered upgrading to DPM 2007 if that might fix the issues, but that would mean an upgrade of the webserver from server 2000 to 2003 since DPM 2007 does not support backup of server 2000. Any other suggestions, specifically to get the DPM 2006 backups running more smoothly or what I can do to upgrade so I don't spend half of my time babysitting the backups would be greatly appreciated.
Another couple of notes: I am using PerfectDisk 8.0 to manage the defrag of my SBS server and Trend Micro for a network-wide virus scan technology. Both of these programs seem to be working fine.
