The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

How to resize SCSI hard Drive Partitions (this is a tricky one)

Asked by Mark0tech in Computer Servers, Hard Drives & Storage, Disk Partition Tools

I have an Acer server running a RAID 5 and my os partition drive has run out of space, The Drives are a hardware Raid they are 3 x 73g seagate SCSI hdd's, in windows the disk has been made Dynamic.
I have 40gb free on the array but cannot do anything with it because of the problems explained below.
- Paragon cannot revert them to basic as they cant do this with SCSI hdd's
- Paragon and Acronis cannot resize or move the partitions around or merge or anything because the disks are dynamic.
- The acronis Boot cd cant run as it comes up saying the disks are dynamic and are not spported.
- I backed up the partitions on the array for backup and as a test restored 1 to a ide drive, while it did boot it was not assigned the right drive letter (i let it as blank as the array was c:) I was hopinh i could boot off the ide drive then delete the partitions on the array in windows make the disk basic put the partitions back on resize them and all done, but no luck.
I have thought of putting a 250gb hdd in and creating a windows mirror if it will let me then brake the mirroe and boot off the new drive and do the process i have written above, but i dont know.
Current partition is as follows:
19gb os - 40gb d:\ - 48gb free no partition - 40gb d:\
Thats how it looks in disk manager yes the free space is in the middle of the d: the partition seems split, Windows manager cannot do anything as It wont let me extend the os partition even if i deleted the d: partitions.
I did not setup this server but I need to come up with a solution.
