ML370 G5 - How to add non-raid drive?

I have inserted another drive into slot 7 of the front panel of drive slots. I would like to use the drive as a stand-alone drive instead of adding it to the current RAID 5 config. Is this possible and if so, where do I configure it?

RAID 5 683 GB currently using first six bays
bay 7 used by new drive not yet setup (bay 8 not used)

Usually to put a drive into an array you have to do some configuration within the controller, so I'm wondering if the simple addition of the disk to the server would automatically just make it available within Windows as a single drive.   Have you checked the Disk management app to see if you now have available a new unformatted disk?

Some servers also will have a disk slot that's not a serviced by the array controller, but does have a SCSI bus.  If you have such a bay, try putting the disk there.

Thanks for the response.  This is a Netware 6.5 server.  I did not see it anywhere listed within the Netware management module but I will look again today and come back to this thread with a response.  I will also look on the board to see if there is another location to insert the extra drive.

I haven't worked with Netware for a while, so can't say for sure, but I would think that if simply adding the disk to the controller would allow an unformatted disk to be seen in Windows, it would probably work the same for Netware.

You need to create a new array and logical drive consisting of the single drive in the Array Configuration Utility (ACU).  ACU is available when you start the server and the various BIOS modules are loading.  When the Array BIOS is loading press F8.

It worked great.  Just used the array config on startup and set it to raid 0 and then within Netware set the drive up as a volume.  Thanks to both of you for the help.
