I agree with madunix , cacti is best monitoring tool that support many more plugins including sending alert via email like nectar.<br />

You could even use HP Systems Insight Manager, designed for HP servers but Dell have a white paper on how to use it to monitor Dells. Email/pager/SMS alerting is built in.

Does anyone have an inexpensive solution for monitoring servers for hardware failures. &nbsp; &nbsp;Dell has a nice interface for viewing hardware issues (server administrator) but it does not allow you to email the alerts.<br />

There are some expensive solutions out there but we are a small shop<br />

It has the ability to send SNMP trap messages but finding something simple to email those has not been easy ether.<br />

Monitoring Servers for Hardware failures

Servers are computing devices that are similar to desktop computers in that they have the same basic components, but are significantly different in size, configuration and purpose. Servers are usually accessed over a network, and many run unattended, without a computer monitor, input device, audio hardware or USB interfaces.
