How to access and set up raid on a HP Proliant ML350 G6
I'm looking for someone to help me set up a RAID on a HP Proliant ML350 G6, with a HP Smart Array P410i Controller. I have 2 new HD's, that I want in a RAID 1, but have not been able to access the raid-setup, so I was wondering if I need some kind of boot-disk, or am I missing something here?

Hope someone could help me with this.

I have downloaded the latest version of SmartStart, but can't find any option to setup a new Array.
When I check the discs, they do look offline, cause there are no lights on them. There have been a RAID5 on this array before, but going for a RAID 1 now, since we have daily backups of the system.
Anyone got an idea how to "fix" this?

It only show 2 options.
More information and View Status Alerts.
It seem the Cache is not set, but can't find any options for it.
Could this be fixed if I do a complete a System Erase option?

Check power &Β cabling to disks and go through troubleshooting. Β Looks like a hardware problem.

i have checked the cables, and can't see anything wrong there. There was a working RAID there like 5 days ago, but somehow our support-company forgot to take backup of that server, and 2 discs in the RAID5 had errors on them, so we have the discs to a recovery-company at. But as out support-company does not have time, I have to install the server with new discs, and not we are going to use RAID1.

Would agree - Check the above
ensure drives do not have the same scsi ID's

Are the drives empty and formattted

The drives are brand new. Ok, checking setup for SCISI Id's now.

Question ?Was the Raid 5 on this same controller ?
Two simultaneous drive failures suggests it may be a faulty controller that caused the failure in the first place perhaps?

Yes, the 2 drives was on the same controller.

But the Cache you activate in the Setuo/bios, could that cause the problem or?

Could the Raid-controller be defect?

Yes, but if this is under warranty, call HP and let them walk you through troubleshooting. Β If no LEDs show up then certainly an indication of a problem. Β If you do not have HP support, then open it up and download the maintenance/service manual at support.hp.com and make sure cabling is correct as a start.

The Warranty ended 3 months ago, but I will download the manual and try to find out some more.

This might help clarify the need or otherwise for cache settings

Also have you ran the acu diagnostic to see if this indicates where your problem is ?

No, not yet. But I will run this as soon as I get home from work, I have the server at home atm, and will try this as soon as I get home.

"HP Smart Array Storage controller needs Array Accelerator Cache (memory module) to support RAID 5. "
But since it has been a RAID5 on the server before, and when I physicaly look into the server I see a module close to the adapter on the mother-board, it is weird that I get a Warning for the cache.
And I have no opportunity to edit the current raid, nor delete it and I don't see the new discs either, I'm starting to wonder if the Array is defect. The discs have no light on them either.

Servers are computing devices that are similar to desktop computers in that they have the same basic components, but are significantly different in size, configuration and purpose. Servers are usually accessed over a network, and many run unattended, without a computer monitor, input device, audio hardware or USB interfaces. Many servers do not have a graphical user interface (GUI), and are configured and managed remotely. Servers typically include hardware redundancy such as dual power supplies, RAID disk systems, and ECC memory, along with extensive pre-boot memory testing and verification. Critical components might be hot swappable, and to guard against overheating, servers might have more powerful fans or use water cooling.
