The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Can READ, but Cannot WRITE to USB Drives Connected to TeraStation Live

Asked by craiggold in Removable Backup Media, Hard Drives & Storage, Computer Hard Drives

This sounds simple, but I've tried everything short of calling Buffalo Tech Support...

I have a 2GB Terastation live connected to my network. To that TeraStation, I have two Ximeta Netdisk drives connected, both in USB mode.

On both of my machines (1 is Win2K, the other XPSP2) I can read all of the files on the drives.  But I cannot copy to either drive -- I keep getting an access denied message/no permissions/file may be in use.

This happens for any/all files I try to copy.  The file is not in use...

Permissions are turned off -- everything should be "open" on the network.

Access to the drives worked fine the first few days, but I've been getting this message for about two weeks now.

I've rebooted the computers, the router and the TeraStation. No luck.

Now this was strange: Just for fun (and because I had exhausted everything else), I turned permissions on, and gave all of the users read/write access. But now I cannot log into the USB Shares with the required network credentials (yes, I am changing the username to the correct one and using the correct password with each username)

Turned permissions off, mounted the drive, can read but cannot write.

I've looked at every screen on the Web Admin interface.  All of them tell me there's write access.

Any ideas you may have are appreciated.  Thanks for reading this far.
