Lately, Microsoft Outlook 2007 has been going into the "not responding" phase on a relatively frequent basis. I can't tell if it's only when I am using Piniform Defraggler or not, but it definitely happens while it is running.
I'm using Microsoft Vista 64-bit with 8 GB of RAM and when Outlook stops responding, the CPU usage as well as the RAM usage is extremely low (between 1 and 4%).
I have only started running into this problem late last night when I had multiple applications open, and was not using Defraggler at the time. I was on the Internet about to download a file. This site I was on operated in the following manner:
After you click the download button, you need to wait either 60 or 90 seconds for the download to begin, and if you don't want to wait-then you can upgrade your membership..The countdown timer worked all the way down to allowing me to download and one second after the download started, all hell broke loose on my computer.
One by one, all of my applications started showing the "not responding" message and I could not close them. I tried to go the taskbar and close them that way but couldn't access it. I had feared that somehow I had contracted a virus. That was in spite of the fact that I have Norton Internet Security Suite.
After turning the machine off, and restarting it, it went into safe mode from where I ran a full system scan and did not come up with anything suspicious. I then closed down my machine the proper way, and restarted in non-safe mode.
Since that point, I have run a virus scan again and come up with no problems. However, like I said, several times Microsoft Outlook has gone into the not responding mode. I'm somewhat confused, since there are so many variables involved that might be causing the problem.
I don't know the impact to the system that Piniform Defraggler has. I also don't know if there is a more intensive virus and malware scan that I should use to see if there is a problem that Norton is not finding.
Any help you can provide in this area will be greatly appreciated.
