WSUS Computer, "Windows could not search for new updates, Error Code 800B0001", Windows Update encountered an unknown error

Try to delete (rename) Software Distribution folder (stop update service at first and start it after deletion).

Try turning off the Antivirus software or Firewall Software.

Please forgieve me for not giving more details.
Operating System is Windows 7 Enterprise Edition 32bit.
The Computer was reloaded using SCCM, then got the error described, unable to update via wsus.
Last action, installing updates after checking online for updates, still set to receive updates: Managed by your system administrator.
I will try deleting Software Distribution folder after the updates finish installing & let you know what happens.  Thank you.

I noticed an error in the Event Log, Event ID 4107 Microsoft Windows CAPI2 and followed advice from technet post -  http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/3128.event-id-4107-microsoft-windows-capi2.aspx
from a command prompt, typed the following command: certutil -urlcache * delete
post states error is because the Microsoft Certificate Trust List (CTL) Publisher certificate expired.  I read another post where inability for a managed Computer to get updates was related to trust/certificate issues.

Can get update from online but this Computer needs to be managed by wsus.  i will check that link, thank you

Issue is resolved, updates are Managed by wsus again & installing.  i did not get to attempt any EE suggestions because i was already trying a couple of things--not sure which resolved it.
Resolution was either:
1. allowing updates to run from online
or
2. advice from technet post -  http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/3128.event-id-4107-microsoft-windows-capi2.aspx
from a command prompt, typed the following command: certutil -urlcache * delete

Issue was resolved by one of two things i was already attempting.

Error returned after a few updates ran managed by wsus, i spoke too soon.

unfortunately turning off antivirus did not help

i ran the Microsoft Fix it from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798/en-us suggested by als315 and the computer is now running the update managed by wsus.  i will run a few more updates managed by wsus before i celebrate and call this fixed this time around.

when i tried to register dll, regsvr32 /u initpki.dll, error message "The module "initpki.dll" failed to load. specified module could not be found

Error occurred again. Microsoft Fix it from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798/en-us suggested by als315 appeared to correct issue but after restart error occurred again.

Currently working thru http://windows.microsoft.com/is-IS/windows7/Windows-Update-error-800B0001  suggested by Venurajav

System Update Readiness Tool does not correct the problem, as per link http://windows.microsoft.com/is-IS/windows7/Windows-Update-error-800B0001 suggested by Venurajav; next step per this link is to repair Windows, going to try that next

thank you als315, i tried those commands, still same error.  more background, this computer was formerly windows xp, deleted out of active directory and out of sccm, reloaded using sccm.  only reloaded computers are having this issue, new computers are not having this issue.  error on wsus server?

reloaded windows 7 enterprise edition, 32bit

ran repair on Windows 7 then it allowed updates managed by wsus, installing 84 updates now.  after restart seems to be where the error occurs, i'll report in what happens after 84 updates complete and it restarts

Issue resolved, Windows is up to date, all Updates applied managed by wsus! Repair of Windows 7 corrected the issue as per link http://windows.microsoft.com/is-IS/windows7/Windows-Update-error-800B0001 suggested by Venurajav.  Points to Venurajav. Cheers!
