I'm not sure how best to word this as I really don't understand what is happening. In essence, a program that used to be able to talk to another PC in the LAN is failing. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but it always fails. The error I receive refers to RPC failure. When trying to PING the 'server' PC, the client fails to resolve the PC name, and instead starts pinging the router. The 'server' PC however can successfully ping the client via it's name. I.e. The server is known as utgp and the client as utgp2. If i type ping utgp2 on the server it successfully pings 192.168.2.64. If I type ping utgp on the client it resolves utgp.BELKIN and pings the routers WAN address.
There are no PC firewalls running, although there is one on the router.
One other clue...this worked a few days ago and the router broke. The error mentioned above started with the new router. I have tried a third router and that didn't help. The subnet of the first router was 192.168.0.* and the second one was 192.168.2.*. Don't know if this helps any!
Can anyone suggest what might be happening? Or maybe just ask a few intelligent questions that might help others to understand what is happening.
I'd really like to resolve thois one as the customer is getting somewhat irate!
TIA
