Problem accessing shared folders through VPN but works fine when in office.

I have just set up a new file server running windows storage server 2003 64 bit edition. I have replaced an old server and the new server got a the same computer name as the old server. The old server now have a different name so they don't conflict. At work within the domain everything worked fine and I was able to open the shared folder on the new server. But when I connect through a VPN connection (CISCO box) from home I am not able to see any of the shared folder on the server. I am told that server could not be found when I write "\\servername" in windows explorer. But I have no problem accessing the server with "remote desktop" and I can ping both the servername and the IP address of the server through VPN. The server is set up to automatically obtain an IP address/DNS server.
