Why do I get the error message "server not found"

When I try to go to certain websites, I often get the message "server not found".   If I reload the page, sometimes the web page opens, sometimes it does not.   This happens with IE as well as Firefox.   I have disabled Norton Personal Firewall, Intrusion Prevention and Spyware Protection with no effect.   This happens on all the computers on my LAN.Start Free Trial
