Check settings for the monitor. The monitor mustn't be listed as "generic VGA" or SVGA but it needs to have a designation that either corresponds to the actual monitor used or a properties set that is suitable to your monitor (and your needs). "Generic LCD 1024X768" would be OK, if your monitor is of that type.

S3 Trio 32? Wow old machine...Pentium II maybe? I'd agree with rid; either the monitor setting is set to "Generic Monitor" or something strange. Try setting it to "Plug and Play Monitor". Where did you check for the driver? Windows Update may have a newer driver for this old S3 chipset. S3 as a company is out of business, but the default WinXP driver should work fine. Are there any errors in the Device Manager (Start/Run/ Devmgmt.msc)? Try deleting the S3 Trio32/64 card from Device Manager and reboot when prompted.
Thanks Guys for replies- yea have deleted drivers and have let the Operating System pick it up again which it did and installed fine. Also its the same monitor that is always used with it. It was working fine up to the last week or so... This is a Pci Video card.. Will have to locate other Video card and see will that work...

1. Delete all the drivers related to this card (make sure you have them on a disk somewhere); reboot the PC; let the Windows XP detect your card, then install the drivers. Make sure that your drivers are the correct ones (32-bit, Windows XP). Ensure that there are no hardware conflicts (particularly, memory).
2. If it doesn't help, I would try to put another (any old) video card temporarily into PC, removing ALL drivers for a Trio video card, and then re-inserting the card back allowing the operating system to find the video card; install the drivers.
3. If you have not capable, old type of monitor then your video card is not a source of the problem. I had a monitor that could not display anything higher than 800x600 pixels. You said nothing about your monitor, so check it out, too.
4. If the above methods don't solve the problem and you have a fully capable monitor, then it's a time to replace the card even if the diagnostics is OK...
