Question
Convert files from Illustrator CS3 to Corel Draw 12
One of our offices creates files in Illustrator CS3 which must be processed at this location in Corel Draw 12. The only way we have found to convert the files is to first convert them to Illustrator 5 files and then Corel Draw 12 will open them. Is there any way to convert them directly from CS3?

One of the main reasons why I buy software each year is version compatibility. Basically you get better success with Corel X4 and Illustrator CS3.
But Illustrator and Corel handle postscript/pdf files slightly differently, Illustrator will be better then corel but corel is pretty good at reading PDF's these days. SP1 of Corel X4 is fairly soon.
I have been looking for a clean solution on this as well as I use CS3 suite and the printing company that I use only has Corel.
Easy solution for most is find a different printing company but I trust these guys more than most.
I have found an experimental plugin that is said to allow you to save as a Corel 12 file format but I have not tested this yet. If it works I'll post where to get it.
Just a follow up on my post the plugin does not work nearly as nice as I had hoped but I downloaded a trial of Corel suite X4 and saved my Illustrator AI as a PDF and then opened the PDF in Corel and chose to load the text as curves instead of text and then deleted the text and redid the text areas, other than the text areas I had no problems.

There are two possibilities. Unfortunately I no longer have access to CorelDraw in order to test them, so I'm afraid these are only unproven suggestions.
1. The default native file format of Illustrator CS3 is PDF with embedded Illustrator editing capabilities, though the creator may override this. If they have not, you may be able to import them as PDFs instead of as AI files.
2. Illustrator CS3 files saved as EPS can often be imported as PostScript level 3.
