The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

SSL Certificate for Exchange 2003 OWA

Asked by rdodderi in Secure Socket Layer (SSL) & HTTPS, Exchange Email Server

Tags: , , , ,

Hello

SSL certificates are a time tested solution and there are innumerable articles in EE and as well on the internet but I have not been able to get a solution for my scenario.

1) Domain Name = www.abc.com
2) OWA Access  = mail1.abc.com and mail2.abc.com (With /Exchange appended off course)

We haven't published our Exchange server directly to the Internet, but instead run the Exchange server on a private IP address. The external DNS setting is handled by network solutions.
Two A records named mail1.abc.com and mail2.abc.com have been created pointing to two different public IP addresses (provided by two different ISP's), which then forwards the appropriate port (443) to the Exchange servers internal IP address.

I am planning to buy a wildcard SSL certificate so that I can secure both mail1.abc.com and mail2.abc.com
Both these essentially NAT back to the same private IP of my Exchange server which I have one only.

Here are my questions
1) Is choosing a wildcard certificate correct
2) How can I map the SSL certificate to the internal Exchange server when I have two different sub domains but essentially pointing to a single Exchange server
3) Currently an internal certificate (Not provided by third party) has been installed which seems to be wrong as the server certificate seems to point to the server name rather than the OWA access URL.
4) When installing the third party certificate should I first remove the internally generated certificate as stated in point 3?
