ipower.com

I've used them for several years. They have tools for beginners and advanced users, provide storage, and provide a web address if needed. They also provide many options such as merchant accounts, paypal acceptance, ss scripting, MS Exchange hosting or basic webmail, etc.

Host monster is also a good option. I have used them without issue for years on even some higher volume game sites and such. Plus, they're cheap.

I've been using hostmysite.com for about a year now and it's been working out pretty good.  I have also used crystaltech.com for 5 years.  I would rate these two companies about equal.  They both own their own data center and have 24/7 support.

I recommend, if possible, any smaller hosting company located in your city. Run a Better Business Bureau check (or equivalent), Google their name + "complaints" for any forum postings pro or con, make a choice and run with it. Yes, you could host cheaply with a company in Timbuktu or something - it's the Internet, after all. But keeping it local has benefits.

Most run similar services at similar prices, but the ability to knock on their door gets you that extra-special level of service, you keep your money local and support a local business.

I'm in Denver, and work with two excellent local companies. I use www.DomainSite.com for domain name registration (they also run basic hosting but I don't use that service) and a local, higher-end development company www.Precis.us for my hosting (pricier, but they host all the technologies I need)

The fact both are local has been a big help when I need something special done, as I've met most of the players in person and they know exactly who I am when I email or call. Need a port opened? "Gee, we don't usually do that for security reasons, but for you... you know what you're doing, so sure." It's a big help.

I agree with BurtAnderson.

Check locally for your solution. In that way you can get support also and value fr money.

SimpleNet offers Secure e-commerce through a click through provider and WhyTheInternet.com ($30/mo) has a secure server where they allow you to use their certificate.
