But the second table is not interactive, but static. I like to see that the letters of 'FLORIDA' will appear when clicking the 'show letters' button, and go away when clicking the 'reset' button.

Try the attached file (change the extension to .html from .txt). I used an array to store the separate strings to be printed. Each table is generated to accommodate the length of the string, and is given a special id that incorporates its loc (location in the array). Then, when the buttons are clicked, the loc variable is set and the table is either updated or cleared.
