Send value from parent window to child window

I have read through several examples on how to send a value to a new popup window, but everytime i try i either get 2 popup windows, or an error Element has no properties.

What i'd like to do is take value and using the onclick command, open a new window, then pass that value to the new window into a form element on the new page. I cannot seem to accomplish this. Here is the code I have tried:
