The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

iframe onclick event to refresh parent window

Asked by wfgllc in JavaScript

I have a php page that loads an iframe (which contains a contact form).  When the contact form is submitted, the response appears inside the iframe with a return button tied to an onclick event that I want to reload the parent window (which will reload the iframe, too - I want this to happen).

The contact form's send button uses post to send the form data to another php, which sanitizes the data and sends me an email.  Inside this php is the code (below) which returns into the original iframe which gives a "thank you" or error message and presents a 'click to return' button.

Can't get the button to work generically, but it will work if I give it a specific URL.  Other simple javascripts, like alerts are working.  Again, in the parent.location.href, if I give it a specific URL, it works just fine.  I want, however, to use this on several different sites and want to point the parent.location.href to whatever page called it in the first place.

Here's the code:

In the body:
<script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">
function RefreshParent()
{
parent.location.href='http://www.mydomain.com';
}
</script>

inside php that processes the contact form and responds:

print "<p><input type=\"button\" value=\"Return\" onClick=\"RefreshParent();\"></p>";

So, the question is:

What can I replace
parent.location.href='http://www.mydomain.com';
with to refer to the page that originally loaded the iframe, without specifying a hardcoded URL?
