The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

PHP copy files from temp directory to new directory based on partial file name

Asked by fastfind1 in PHP and Databases, Adobe Acrobat

I have a directory named temp that contains pdf files as they are created.  Each file has a unique 3 digit number followed by an underscore and 4 letters.

I am trying to create a PHP script that when runs, looks at each file in the temp directory, then copies each file into the appropriate directory based upon the first 3 numbers of the pdf file name.

So for example, in the temp directory, there may be multiple pdf's that may look like:
123_nnnn.pdf
120_llll.pdf
125_aaaa.pdf

and so on

What I want the PHP script to do is to copy the 123_nnnn.pdf to a directory called files/123/ which already exists on the server.
Then I want the PHP script to get the next file in the temp directory, 120_llll.pdf and copy it to an existing directory called files/120/

And so forth for all of the files in the temp directory.

I don't want to rename the files, and after copying the files to the new directories, I will be deleting all files in the temp directory (I do know how to do that).

But how can I get PHP to look at the first 3 numbers of the file name and then copy it to an existing directory with the same 3 numbers?Start Free Trial
