The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

I cannot connect to mysql from php

Asked by drogren in PHP Installation

Tags: , , ,

All of the installation appears normal, no errors.  Mysql runs fine manually, but when running the following php script, the browser is blank:

<?php

  error_reporting(E_ALL);

  $dbcnx = mysql_connect('localhost', 'root', 'Password01') or die("DB Connection failed : " . mysql_error());

  echo "DB Connected successfully. <br>";

  // Select the jokes database
  mysql_select_db('jokes') or die("DB Selection failed : " . mysql_error());

  echo "DB selected successfully.";

?>

I am running this on a Windows 2003 standard server as a domain controller, with IIS6.0 web server, with exchange installed as well.   I have installed mysql4.1, and PHP 5.0.3.

When I first had this problem, I totally removed all mysql, and php.  I have established root as an domain account, and established everyone full control on the mysql, and php folders.

The my-small.ini file no longer has basedir specs. so I did not change this.

I copied libmysql.dll to the windows\system32.

I copied php5ts.dll to windows\system32

In the default web site I set isapi .php to d:\php\php5isapi.dll, plus set the home directory to it as well for .php.

My php scripts run okay, but when I call mysql the browser goes blank.

I have verified via command line  running mysql that all instructions required work.

I never get the first echo from the above code.

I am requesting help.
