The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

test.php not working when installing PHP 5.2.5 on Apache 2.26

Asked by MidlandR in PHP Installation, Apache Web Server, PHP for Windows

Tags: ,

Hi, I am wanting to learn PHP and MySQL but am having no success with the PHP install.

To date, I've installed Apache 2.26 locally on my laptop for the purposes of testing examples I learn.  When I type http://localhost into my browser I receive the message "It Works!" so I am happy there.

I have also installed MySQL 5.0.45 but have not tested this yet as my instructions lead me to believe that this has no consequence in terms of where I am currently trying to do with the PHP install.

To configure Apache I went into httpd.conf and performed the following:
Entered line stating: LineModule php5_module "c:/php/php5apache2_2.dll" in the module statement section.
Searched for <IfModule mime_module> and entered a new line stating: AddType application/x-httpd-php. php before the </IfModule> line.
Modified the <IfModule dir_module> line item to read: DirectoryIndex index.html index.php

I have a directory set up called c:\php, from this I copied "php.ini-recommended" into c:\WINDOWS, renamed it "php.ini" and attach code snippets of areas amended as instructed.

The following .dll files were then copied from c:\php into c:\WINDOWS\System32:
fdftk.dll
fribidi.dll
gds32.dll
libeay32.dll
libmcrypt.dll
libmhash.dll
libmysql.dll
libswish-e.dll
msql.dll
ssleay32.dll

I created a test.php file within the "htdocs" directory within "Apache2.2" and entered the following code:
<?php phpinfo(); ?>

When I restart Apache, type http://localhost and receive a successful "It Works!" message I then type http://localhost/test.php expecting to see the spec details of my version of PHP.

All I get is "The webpage cannot be found" and I have checked that I've followed the instructions on numerous occasions and can't see where I have gone wrong!

This is all new to me as you can see, therefore I'd obviously greatly appreciate any remedial help that anyone can give me to get me out of this situation.

Many thanks. Start Free Trial

PHP.INI
; Directory in which the loadable extensions (modules) reside.
extension_dir = "c:\php\ext"

; Windows Extensions
; Note that ODBC support is built in, so no dll is needed for it.
; Note that many DLL files are located in the extensions/ (PHP 4) ext/ (PHP 5)
; extension folders as well as the separate PECL DLL download (PHP 5).
; Be sure to appropriately set the extension_dir directive.
extension=php_mysqli.dll
