The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Configuring PHP - Phantom php.ini file

Asked by Xselcer in PHP Installation, PHP Scripting Language, Microsoft IIS Web Server

Tags: , , ,

This is very strange I am completely perplexed. I have setup PHP in a windows environment a hundred times and I have never encountered anything like this. I used the msi install package initially to install PHP and chose the isapi option. The install seemed to run fine but when I realized that the mysql extension had not been loaded I decided to pull a phpinfo() page. This showed the php.ini file to be loaded in C:\Windows, which was odd since it should have been looking at the ini file in the PHP directory. So I went to the windows directory and there was no php.ini file there. So I did a search for php.ini on the system and there were only 2. The first was in the PHP directory and the second was in the NuSphere directory (used for it's own internal debugging purposes). So I decided to place my ini file in the windows directory to see if it would read that. When I did that the phpinfo() page would not pull up at all. Actually having a file there seemed to interrupt the php processor completely. From here I tried several different things roughly in the order below:

Uninstalled/reinstalled PHP 5.2.5
Unistalled Nusphere (just in case)
Uninstalled/reinstalled PHP 5.2.5
Uninstalled/reinstalled IIS
Installed the manual zip package of PHP 5.2.4
Reinstalled PHP 5.2.5

At this point I am about ready to go to apache just for the sake of getting back to work but there is no reason for that and I would like to continue using IIS for development since that is on the production server. Thoughts?
