Profile -
In 1981-1984 I got my first computer, an Atari 8-bit machine.  Having previously learned FORTRAN and APL on main frames, BASIC was a new thing.  After a while 6502 Assembly was a must.  Then the Atari ST came along.  And then it turned into a Mac Plus.  Later came various Macs and Windows boxes.  In parallel, I did two Masters and then got hired as an Operational Research scientist for National Defence.  I later transferred to the DRDC Valcartier research centre where I've been involved in information systems for command & control, modelling and simulation, and more recently intelligent agents.  The other half of my work is in military symbology, which is reflected in my personal fascination with writing systems, fonting, vexillology and heraldry.  I collect electronic music (Tangerine Dream and others), role-playing, board and card games, and am a voracious reader --love Terry Pratchett, Tom Holt, H. P. Lovecraft, Poul Anderson, John Morressy, Robert L. Forward, Harry Turtledove, Judith Tarr, Cecelia Holland, Pauline Gedge, Christian Jacq and many others.  Hard SF, fantasy, and all things Ancient Egyptian.  Married with a child, two cats and a chihuahua-pomeranian cross-breed dog.  Author of GURPS Grimoire and contributor to numerous other GURPS supplements.
