Personal Description
Software developer, mainly web-based applications written in Java and Perl running for both NT/IIS and Linux/Apache. I've written some PalmOS stuff too. My all time absolute favorite Perl module - Win32::ASP (it lets you beat NT/IIS into submission and pretend it's running under a crippled installation of Linux/Apache, so you can use "print" and "open" instead of screwing around with response.write and its weird filesystem objects). You can probably tell that I have a strong preference for Linux/Apache as a web server environment. The fact that I've never actually managed to crash Apache with anything I've ever written, but crashed IIS badly enough to necessitate rebooting the computer a few times doesn't hurt, either.
On the other hand, my desktop environment is 99% Windows (I do have Linux installed on a separate partition for days when I feel the need to be different).
What? A heretic who develops software for Linux using Windows?
I won't apologize. I was a die-hard Amiga owner from '86 to '92, then spent 3 masochistic years fighting with OS/2 before dumping it the day after I got the May '95 beta of Win95 and finally got to have an operating system that was pretty, at least as reliable as the alternatives (OS/2 might have had a rock-solid kernel, but does it really matter if all of your hardware drivers are hastily-written unsupported pre-alpha versions that crash if you move the mouse pointer at the wrong moment?), and actually supported my hardware (anybody remember the joy of Amiga games that wouldn't work if you had an '030, more than 512k of ram, or -- god forbid -- a hard drive? And don't even get me started on trying to use a Gravis Ultrasound under OS/2).
I've paid my dues.
