I am an IT consultant in the South West of England, UK, managing networks for small - medium sized companies, with 5 - 250 employees (although I have worked on networks with up to 2000+ users). I have many years experience in the deployment, maintenance and day-to-day administration of Windows Server 2000, 2003 and 2008, Active Directory, Exchange Server 2003/2007, Windows XP/Vista, Small Business Server, plus deployment and maintenance of associated network and hardware infrastructure, PCs, laptops, servers, routers, switches, printers, VPN and Wi-Fi technologies.
I also undertake website design and development jobs for businesses and non-profit organizations. All websites are developed in accordance with the latest industry standards and practices, most notably the use of valid XHTML and CSS conforming to W3C standards. Where a dynamic, back-end processing interface is required (whether for processing user logins, eCommerce or any other appropriate purpose), PHP or ASP projects can be seen from beginning to end, using a MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server or MS Access database system (RDBMS). I, rather tediously, program all my sites in pure Notepad and/or Wordpad (every single line of HTML, CSS, JS, PHP or ASP code). This approach to development does NOT (seriously...!) add to the time it takes to develop the application - if anything, it reduces it by eliminating the unnecessary, unwanted source code generated by WYSIWYG editors, whilst ensuring applications are consistent throughout and reliable in a multitude of browsers.
I predominantly use Experts-Exchange as an Expert by answering other users' questions. I have achieved ranks in many different zones, including Exchange Email Server and Windows 2003 Server. I was the first Expert to reach 50 000 points (Master certification) in the Windows Server 2008 Topic Area. Please remember that while I try to look at as many questions as I can, I am situated in the UK (different time zone) and do have other activities - so if I do not respond immediately to a comment, give it a few hours and I suspect I will return. If I will be away for extended periods of time, I will let you know by posting a comment at the top of my profile.
>>> "Can I hire you?"
YES! You can hire me. I can perform most server-related work remotely using Remote Desktop or VNC. For website related work, you can be anywhere in the United Kingdom. For new deployments or major work where I will need to visit you on-site, it is preferable if you are in the South West of England. For more information, please send an email to the address below and I will happily give you more information on my competitive pricing structure.
On Experts Exchange, I can usually be found in the Microsoft Server and Desktop OS zones, although I try to assist in Web Development zones when I get the chance. I am also a Cleanup Volunteer (CV) for a reasonable list of zones. As of June 2008, I've handled almost 2000 questions through Cleanup, but that figure is increasing all the time.
The first question I ever answered was on Wifi Hotspots and Remote Desktop at
http:Q_21794801.html back in 2006. I didn't really participate properly on the site until the early part of 2007, though.
If you need to contact me for anything EE related or otherwise, please email (after removing my deliberate obfuscation):
