I am an early-40s geek for a software development company. I came in through the documentation department and did a turn as a GUI developer before sneaking in as a software designer. Currently I am an "Applications Analysis Consultant," meaning, uh, I tell people how to use all the internal tools we have, and try to find ways to make the tools work better together. I also do VB and Lotus Notes development and various tool tweaking.
I've been toying with computers since the days of Applesoft in the early '80s. All these years out of school, I would love to go back and get a master's in software engineering, if time and money allowed, as it's hard for a guy with a photojournalism degree to get very far when all his official technical experience is in a COBOL shop.
