I can be reached at denverkris at lycos dot com, but any ?'s relating to content on EE should be kept on EE for everyone's benefit. Thanks!

At my previous position as Senior Network Engineer with the City of Norfolk, VA, my group managed 100+ servers, 5000 users, tons of wan links (mostly fiber, thank goodness) and about a billiion applications. We also had an IBM Shark SAN.

My strengths include Exchange, vbscripting (bulk changes, reporting, etc), anything AD related, and basically just digging in and figuring sh*t out. I also (use to) work on all types of Cisco equipment (up to an including 6509's), Checkpoint Firewall, Citrix servers, HP server hardware, and tons of other stuff.

KEYS TO FINDING YOUR SOLUTION:

  a) Supply a fair amount of points for the answer - Experts here are not paid, except with these points.  PLEASE DO NOT GRADE ANY EXPERT A C, and only a B if they ditched you.  This doesn't mean all questions should be 500 points. Typically if you're unsure, start off by offering 250. You can always increase the points if necessary.

a-1)To reiterate a point from above, EXPERTS HERE ARE NOT PAID. They are volunteers! That being said, don't come here looking for an 'easy' button. Those who are prepared to troubleshoot things, to do things on their own, WHO WANT TO LEARN, and who follow the guidance given will be the ones most likely to succeed. If you don't want to do anything on your own, OR ARE NOT CAPABLE of doing it on your own, it shouldn't be too difficult to find a PAID consultant who will do everything for you.

a-1-a) Lots of people come here looking for scripts to do bulk changes for them. Most people here do not want to spend hours writing a scirpt for you because you don't know how to do and it, and aren't smart enough to hire someone at your place of emaployment who can. So, we'll likely tell you that it can be done via script, but don't expect us to write it for you. Feel free to ping me offline if you wish to consult with me about paying me to write something for you.

a-2)This career has been a constant learning experience for me. I still learn something new almost every day. Even though I've been doing this for 10 years, I still don't know everything, and I've yet to meet anyone who does. So, don't be afraid to say 'I don't know', but at the same time, I've gotten where I am by striving to learn more. Participating in this forum is one of the ways I accomplish that goal. Hopefully you will strive for success as well.

  b) Explain exactly what you're looking to achieve.  If it's a big project, don't expect an expert to spend all their time doing your work for you.  Either get guidance here and do it yourself, or at least break it up into smaller chunks!

  c) Collaborate! Experts can't read your mind. So, if they post a question or suggestion, please answer it and/or try it! If you don't want to try something suggested, just say so. Don't ignore their efforts.

  d) If you've found your solution, accept an answer. Nobody likes abandoned questions, least of all the cleanup volunteers and moderators. Additionally, the site's best experts tend to check out how many questions you've left open and shy away from those that seem to leave questions open or grade them poorly.
- and if you figured it out yourself, but others gave you guidance, be fair and distribute the points for the efforts given.
