Once I went on a journey to become one of the best MS Office experts on EE. That worked out quite well for a while. Distraction took me through darker times and with no mission in place I was lost. Stumbling through life can be fun but sooner or later a journey is needed. In 2008 I started on a new journey, become an XBRL expert. The road I took wasn't the easiest and I'm still a starter in terms of knowledge on this technology, determined to graduate over the next 10 months.
Another thing I realized is that I have become a fossil in IT knowledge terms. New technologies and different attitudes towards using technology to solve real world problems are rapidly changing the field. Do we still (re)write database connections in 3 years time? Or do we connect a simple block that asks for a few configuration items and does the rest by itself? I think the latter and that's my second journey trying to NOT become obsolete ;-)
The tech tools I use are mostly Microsoft based technologies but that's no barrier to learning or using other things. At this moment my focus will be on XML/XBRL and using Talend for data synchronization projects.
I hope that I can help in a few questions and have my own answered at the same time here on EE
