Personal Description

I'm a software engineer working for Varian Medial Systems, right now I'm involved with developing their Medical Oncology product.

I also like to hack around on my own time, I am currently re-writing a basic content management system in PHP.  A buddy of mine and I wrote it the first time, and completed the whole thing in four months - from conception to active deployment, I would say that the hardest part of the whole thing was writing the RTF to HTML converter in PHP, while learning the language.

I also like to hack around in C#, it doesn't really matter the version, but I downloaded the express version of 2005 a little while ago, and I'm currently writing a PHP code generator for our data classes - It reads in the database spec from an XML file and converts that to PHP properties and functions.  

Most of the languages I know are self-taught, but I try to abide by the standards.  I do have a diploma in computer programming, but they didn't really teach the practical aspects of OO at the time.

I also have an interest in using applicable design patterns when developing software, right now we're most likely going to be using at least the singleton, factory (maybe abstract factory, we'll see when I get there), and the command pattern in the re-write of the content management system.
