Personal Description

Humble Beginnings
----------------------

Welcome to my profile ... The first time I ever saw a computer was around the age of 5 in a catalogue, at that time I was too young to understand what I was looking at exactly but I knew that I wanted it anyway! <hey> a few months later it was my birthday and I got my first computer and discovered that I could get it to make all kinds of weird and wonderful noises by typing in programs from the manual. Plus later on came the knowledge of the CTRL+Break sequence which meant from that point onwards I was truly hooked and had the power .... to at least break games..  ha ha ha

Academic
-----------

Some years later .. I received a BS.c Honours Degree In Computer & Network Engineering from a well ranked university, this academic route meant that software engineering was always very present but unlike traditional SE courses I had the opportunity to become well versed in other engineering disciplines.

Career
------------------------------

Naturally enough I became a senior application/web developer and have been in the commercial market for over 7 years, not exactly old school but at least I come from good foundations. Technology wise ? I'll use the best tool for the job where possible.

My early foundations were laid in  ASSEMBLER, BASIC, AMOS!, PASCAL, COBOL (hated it), C (loved it). Then later I progressed into Visual Basic 4.0/5.0/6.0, C++ and OOP.

Visual Basic 6.0, HTML/XHTML, XML, CSS, JavaScript, Java, PHP, .NET, MySQL, ASP, dBase,  MS Access, MS SQL Server, Apache/IIS, Photoshop .... all good fun.

My daily activity focuses on a range of Enterprise DBMS and the support and development of in-house and external Interfaces, whilst trying to have a life and support my incredible wife and children :-)

Personal
----------

When I get personal time (ha!), going to church, keeping fit (although not) and watching DVD's, playing the guitar (in a fashion, its an acquired taste)  i'm sure you understand.

Anyhow hope that we can learn something from one another about life and offer solutions rather than problems... I may even gain a better sense of humour - dont hold your breath :-)
